Ankeny/Gowey House

  • Address: 912 Second Avenue West
  • Date Built: 1891
  • Original Architect/Builder: Rudolph Ankeny
  • Original Owners: Rudolph and Eleanor Ankeny
  • Description: Miniature shingled Queen Anne Victorian house built with a two-story turret on the southeast corners.

Historic Seattle's Role:

Historic Seattle purchased the house in 1980 after being approached by the Gowey family, residents of the house since 1933. Historic Seattle completed partial renovation on the exterior of the house, rebuilding the entire south and front facades. The property was then sold to the Moultrie family, who undertook extensive interior renovation of the house.

Current and Future Uses:

The house continues to be a single family residence in a neighborhood under growing pressure from large apartment house development. Through protective covenants included in the sale of the house, it continues to be protected from demolition and exterior alteration.
