Members Meetings / Learning from Historic Sites

Historic Seattle quarterly meetings are planned specifically to reach out to the geographic boundaries of Seattle and King County to broaden attendees’ understanding of historic places which they may not know well and the challenges and successes of restoration, seismic repairs, adaptive reuse, and grassroots preservation efforts.

Tours

Each year, Historic Seattle creates rare opportunities to explore architecture, design, and historic preservation in Seattle and in other cities with experts in the field. Locally, we offer tours of historic residences and gardens, neighborhood walking tours, and specially arranged visits to utilitarian industrial, institutional, and civic sites.

Workshops and Training

We offer hands-on workshops, demonstrations, and on-site visits with professionals in the field. We also provide an introduction to local archives and research methods through our Digging Deeper workshops, and give citizens the tools to save places that matter to them through preservation advocacy training.

Films and Lectures

Historic Seattle hosts film screenings and lectures by respected scholars and authors, delving into every aspect of architectural form and styles, design and decorative arts, building materials, repair and stewardship. Since 1997, we have sponsored over 100 important lectures alone and in partnership with other organizations.

Special Events

Along with our regular offerings, Historic Seattle hosts an Annual Historic Preservation Awards ceremony to acknowledge recent successes in the field locally. We welcome businesses and community members to join us for a celebratory evening of good food, drink, conversation, presentations, and award winning projects. Occasionally, we have opportunities for exclusive openings and site visits for our members only.

Our InterUrban series seeks to engage broad audiences and inspire conversations about achieving more livable communities through preservation. One outcome is to create a broader awareness about the opportunities and challenges that Seattle faces as it looks to the future.
