Heart Bomb: Belltown

Thursday, February 13, 2025 | All Events (see all)

Join Historic Seattle and Friends of Historic Belltown on Thursday, February 13, at 3 pm to show some love for Belltown and raise awareness and appreciation for this community’s historic places.

What’s a Heart Bomb?!

heart bomb is a public display of affection for places that matter. Every February, people across the country gather at historic sites and local landmarks (both safe and threatened!) to snap a photo with their valentines. Sharing the photos on social media raises awareness of these special places and why they matter to their local communities. Share your own photos using #heartbombSEA and #IHeartSavingPlaces. And don’t forget to tag Historic Seattle in your #heartbomb pictures so we can share your wonderful heart bombs on our Instagram and Facebook!

Why Belltown?

Belltown has a long history in Seattle. As a downtown neighborhood, it has seen a lot of physical and social change over the decades. Belltown’s mix of businesses (big and small), residents, community members, multi-family dwellings, creative culture, and historic urban fabric define this unique place. Its history and heritage tell a deeper story. This Heart Bomb event celebrates the great aspects of Belltown but also brings attention to historic places that have been lost and those that are currently threatened. Historic Seattle and Friends of Historic Belltown have been working together to advocate for preservation in Belltown for the past 10 years. The work continues…

How do I participate?

Step 1: Get your creative juices flowing and create a valentine card for either Belltown or a special historic place or legacy business in Belltown (past or present).

Step 2: Meet up on Wall Street, just west of 1st Avenue (down the hill), near the alley, on Thursday, February 13, at 3 pm with your valentine. We’ll be taking a group photo in front of the “Welcome to Belltown” mural on the south wall of the Ace Hotel building (originally known as the Latona Hotel, a designated Seattle landmark). For inspiration, check out some of our past heart bomb activities around Seattle via this slideshow.

Step 3: Say “cheese” with your fellow Heart Bombers for a photo with our valentines in front of the mural. Be sure to wear your rain coat in the event that there is rain! The photo will be taken outside in the parking lot adjacent to the Ace Hotel building, rain or shine.

Logistics

This program will be brief, only lasting as long as it takes to take a few good photos. Please plan to arrive by 3 pm; we will take the photographs around 3:10 pm. While we encourage everyone to bring a valentine, don’t worry if you don’t have one! We will bring a few extras. After the group photo, for those who wish to continue the fun, we’ll gather inside Cyclops Café & Lounge (2421 1st Avenue) for happy hour (no host bar—patrons cover their own tab).
