Sunset Hill Community Hall | 2025 Community Advocacy Award

We look forward to welcoming you to Sunset Hill Community Hall for a brief tour exploring the architecture, history, and enduring community legacy of this neighborhood landmark, followed by an ice cream social!

Sunset Hill Community Hall was designed in 1927 by architect and neighborhood resident Charles Bennett Thompson and completed in 1928 as the home of the Sunset Hill Improvement Club. Its Colonial Revival design, original wood shingles, portico, cottage windows, and two gathering halls reflect Seattle’s early community club movement. For nearly 100 years, it has hosted meetings, dances, performances, youth programs, weddings, and more. A major 1999 rehabilitation improved accessibility while preserving its historic character, and in 2024 ownership transferred to a nonprofit dedicated to its continued use as a community hall. This tour explores the people, architecture, and preservation efforts that have kept it a place built by neighbors, for neighbors. To learn more about Sunset Hill Community Hall check out our News page!

Following the tour, guests are invited to stay for an ice cream social and continue celebrating the hall’s legacy as a community space.

This low cost program is supported in part by 4Culture.
