Projects

Historic Seattle seeks to restore significant buildings and sites which are threatened or neglected. As a public development authority, we can purchase, sell, own, develop, and invest in real estate for the purpose of preservation. Since 1973, our efforts have helped protect the unique architectural character of Seattle.

Historic Seattle has played a pivotal role in numerous development and restoration projects of historic buildings throughout Seattle since 1973. We protect and save threatened and vulnerable historic properties. We find contemporary uses for historic buildings, creating incentives for stewardship and preservation.

Historic Seattle’s projects fall into four categories.

Our Portfolio

Our portfolio consists of historic properties we currently own, operate, and manage. We successfully renovated these historic places so that they may continue to provide a variety of uses and value in our communities.

Easements

Historic Seattle is directly involved in the permanent protection of some of Seattle’s and King County’s historic places through our Preservation Easement program. We hold easements on over two dozen properties as a form of ongoing stewardship.

Preservation Action Fund

The PAF is an initiative funded by King County and managed by 4Culture to save and rehabilitate historic structures located in King County but outside of Seattle. Historic Seattle serves as the developer. Representatives from King County’s Historic Preservation Program, the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation, Historic Seattle, and 4Culture serve on the fund’s advisory board.

Past Projects

Historic Seattle has saved and rehabilitated dozens of historic places throughout the city. In all cases of past projects, although no longer acting as consultant nor owner, we have sold these properties with landmark status and/or protective easements to new owners and stewards.
