Washington Trust Announces 2011 List of Endangered Historic Resources

Seattle, Washington: The Washington Trust for Historic Preservation is pleased to host a press event on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. to announce its annual list of the state’s Most Endangered Historic Properties.  The press event will be held at Fireman’s Park, located at the intersection of S 7^th Street and Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma.

Since initiating its Most Endangered Historic Properties List in 1992, the Washington Trust has identified over 100 historically significant resources experiencing a wide range of pressures.  Inclusion in our annual list is intended to raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities facing historic resources across the state and to encourage collaboration with all stakeholders to develop preservation strategies.  In numerous instances, Most Endangered status has worked to facilitate solutions that promote the historic significance of sites while retaining important resources as viable, functional components of our neighborhoods and communities.  Five historic resources are highlighted in the 2011 List.  

Directions to Fireman’s Park

Fireman’s Park spreads across several blocks in downtown Tacoma.  The press event will be held at the northern end of the park at the intersection of S 7^th Street and Pacific Avenue.

From Interstate 5 (heading north or south):

Take Exit 133 onto Interstate 705 heading west

Follow I-705 to the S Stadium Way Exit

At S Stadium Way, turn left onto Commerce Street

Take the first left onto S 7^th Street

Go one block down the hill to Pacific Avenue – S 7^th Street ends at Pacific Avenue and Fireman’s Park will be directly ahead at the foot of the hill.

Parking:

Street parking is available on most streets in the vicinity of the S 7^th Street and Pacific Avenue intersection.
